about Kizuna project in Stockholm

What is this project?

The project members live in Stockholm - a great distance away from our home country which was deeply affected by the unprecedented disaster. The project intends to strengthen the ‘kizuna’ (‘bond’ in Japanese) with Japan through organizing various donation activities.

What do you do?

Our activities are organized on an irregular basis. What we can do can be found in our everyday lives. On certain occasions we will support activities arranged by others with the objective to collect donations for the reconstruction of eastern Japan. At times we will play the central role of organizing such events.

Who is involved?

The project members are composed of six women of various ages living in Stockholm, each with different backgrounds and specialties. We are all Japanese who are pursuing our own interests, and we appreciate connections that we build with others. We should also mention that through our studies and work, we want to feel connected to the Swedish society.

What are your goals?

We are not certain how long the reconstruction process will take. No one knows. But as weeks and months pass by, our memories start to fade. However, victims continue to struggle in the disaster stricken areas, even as we speak. We hope to keep this project alive so as to remind ourselves that there are still people out there, suffering to put their lives back on track.

How the project formed:

It started from each of us having the desire to exercise, to stay healthy despite our busy lives. Then we happened to meet through various personal connections, and started to work out together.
This is how the members met.

The Great East Japan Earthquake

We supported Yaneka’s charity concert by making paper cranes to give out to those who made a donation.

We participated in a donation event held at Sergelstorget.

One of our group members made a trip back to Japan. She visited the stricken areas including her hometown, and took many pictures.

We decided to organize a photo exhibition as an opportunity for her to share the valuable experiences she had in Japan.

Stickers and badges will be sold at the exhibition, and all profit will be donated.
